Mission Statement: We teach reading comprehension, written language, speed-reading, and high level study skills, all of which involve deep thinking. The goal is to discover how to learn well and to acquire a love of learning lasting throughout the student’s life.
At the Reading Consultancy, world literature is used to teach reading comprehension in a one-on-one setting, and students experience the work of authors who have written across distance and time. Reading, writing, speaking, listening, and mathematics are taught in an integrated way. Each student is encountered at his/her own starting point and enabled to grow; there is no fixed beginning or ending.
Some former students return several years after attaining an initial goal and begin there to reach an even higher level. The process proves that hard work can be enjoyable. In recent years, we have been discovering that the workplace and school are changing, and opportunities are often dependent upon the ability to deal with the written word and mathematics at higher and higher levels.
As the amount of information grows, the ability to access it through the written word is critical.
